This diploma thesis deals with the issue of the teaching profession in the period of totalitarianism on a particular territory of the Czech Republic. It deals with the period of 1948-1989 from the point of view of teachers and the school system. The theoretical part will give insight into the school structure, legislation, management and the position of primary school teachers in the given period, in the context of Sedlčany. The research part is based on the testimonies of teachers-witnesses of the time. Data acquisition methods are based on characteristic oral history tools. Factors affecting studens' decision to start a study programme in chemistry teaching

This bachelor's thesis is about discovering motivational factors that drive students to become chemistry teachers. The theoretical part firstly talks about choosing a profession with a science background, it focuses on factors that affect the career decision-making of students and picking a job in a science environment. Further, it presents Czech and foreign research as well as the publication of incentive theme for becoming a (chemistry) teacher. The research part is devoted to gathering and analyzing data that were collected using a FIT-Choice Scale questionnaire. Said questionnaire was firstly translated to the Czech language. The research was attended by 98 students of chemistry teaching from 8 colleges. Results exhibit that amongst the most important factors affecting a decision of studying chemistry teaching is working with kids and adolescent students additionally forming their future. Among others also important factors are the self-acknowledgment of personal teaching skills, the individual interest of the job, the conception of stable employment, effort of contributing the society, and previous experience with both teaching and learning. Comparison of Czech and Slovak career system of pedagogical staff

The aim of the work is to find out differences and consistent solutions in the field of professional development in the Czech and Slovak career system. Basic method used in the thesis is content analysis and comparative research of the Slovak law with the proposal of the Czech law and their relevant norms. In the first two chapters, which are theoretical part, basic terms are defined: teacher and their professional development, career system and its parts. Results of the comparative research of both laws and other relevant documents are presented in the third chapter. The subchapter 3.7 includes findings from the comparative research summed up in the answers on research questions. The results of the findings prove that career systems of both countries coincide in many areas, which might be caused by common historical background. The most important coincidences include - application of "multi-level career structure", seeing professional development as a way to reach competences, and performing attestation as a way of proving competences for the higher career level. Competencies in Teacher Profession

Definition of competences in teacher profession is still open question to be answered. Till today there is no common agreement about definition of competences as a term. There were elaborated many detailed studies about what do profession competences of teacher include, how to work with them in order to develop and deepen them. The aim of this thesis is to find characteristics of teacher, his competences expected from students and reputation of teacher profession in students´ eyes. In the theoretical part of this thesis is described profession of teacher, its´ phases, feminization, reputation, necessity and the whole Czech educational system in general. Furthermore we focus on personality of teacher, its´ identification, personality features, abilities, creativity and characteristics of teacher. In the final section of theoretical part there are described competences of teacher in general and mentioned the most often used classification of profession competences in teacher profession. The practical part of thesis is based on questionnaire examination from high school and college students. The questionnaire itself is focused on identifying of reputation of teacher profession among students and also on characteristics teacher should / should not have. Furthermore there are described teachers´ competences which are preferred / are not preferred from students.
